Show and tell - beautiful makes that are not quilts

It's not all quilts ...

Our fabric flower making for the #fearlessflowers project is
gaining momentum. We filled a vintage basket this week
that was Helen’s grandmother’s - Helen remembers a home-
baked sponge cake being taken to a local meeting every week
in this basket. We plan to fill it a few times over with flowers
to support ovarian cancer awareness and research.

Lynette ran out of time for her retreat challenge, until a sympathetic
shop owner introduced her to the 'ten minute table runner'.

Lyn cut the challenge fabric up and made a SewMiriam
whopper-shopper, lined with scenes from Paris!

Elaine B made a fabric ball for a new baby whose Mum loves
swans. When Elaine asked if anyone could help out with a
fabric with a swan print,  Elaine G made her an
embroidered one, in the desired pink.

Robin made a very cute and quirky decoration for
caravanning friends.

Roslyn found Henrietta, the comfort chook at a country market
- she is the size of a cushion, and beautifully squishy.

Show and tell - all the colours

Jenn's colour explosion is made from a pattern by
Nydia Kehnle, in Cotton Couture solids by
Michael Miller Fabrics

It is foundation pieced and hand quilted, including
the binding hand-stitched to the front. 

Julie found a way to manage her asymmetric
panel of 1 1/2" hexagons!

Beautiful baby quilt made and quilted with bubbles by Yvette.

Orange was requested, and delivered in the stars,
binding and a gorgeous orange backing.

Sue has been carefully curating a collection of hexagon to
reflect her granddaughter's interests and taste

They will be complimented by  a double row of raspberry
coloured hexies, and a border to be determined.

Sue's hexagon game is diverse - she machine pieced these
larger ones, made from her stash of William Morris print fabric,
using a template set. The borders are from the community
stash and the quilt is for our community collection

Quilting by Yvette,

'Bowls' is a pattern by Brigitte Heitland (Zen Chic Moda),
made from Zen Chic fabric by Jo-Ann. We are really looking
forward to seeing it again when Jo has quilted it in red thread.

Robin found a vibrant blue to lift the other colours in this
community quilt, since the main print is much 'quieter'
than she usually uses. Quilting by Lynette.

Miriam's Superstar quilt design is available both as a pattern to purchase, and as a project in the Quiltmania magazine, Issue #134. Congratulations on your publication, Miriam!

Adrienne delved into her extensive stash of Japanese prints ...

... and set them in a subtle background of mushroom

Louise has used both high and low contrast fabrics, a deep
teal cross hatch background and a riot of floral brights to great
effect in her ‘SuperStars’ quilt top. 

Quilting over the summer holidays, Louise?

Dawn made a large version with a rich green textured
background ...

... and a smaller version for a child, now ready for
quilting by Laura.

Lyn's dark textured background contrasts very
nicely with her star prints

Nerida organised the workshop, coordinated on the day and
still managed to make a beautiful baby sized SuperStars quilt

Show and tell - the red edition

Rich reds and quilts just go together ... as in these wonderful quilts that came to show and tell in the last couple of weeks ...

Elaine made her quilt in a class at Hobbysew Kings Park - best borders!

She added hand stitching to machine quilting both to emphasise
the shapes, and manage the hi-loft batting

Helen's quilt is mostly French General fabrics
- they go together so beautifully.

'Fire and Ice', designed by Carol Roberts (Cherry Pie Designs)
and made by Noelle in  gorgeous prints, with a rich border.

All hand stitched except the border.

Red binding is a perfect finish for Pat's sumptuous
'Pickled Fish' (designed by Chris Jurd).

Quilt drive for people affected by NSW and Qld bushfires: LFTLA

Please note that this quilt drive has a short time frame, with a deadline of 13 December 2019, and requires completed quilts of any size.

After our very successful quilt drive for fire affected Victorians in March 2019, we have decided to do another! This time, donated quilts will be given out to individuals/families affected by the fires in NSW/Qld.

What we need from you

We need ladies from Australia to send completed quilts to us, so that we can give them out in the coming months. If you wish, include your name and town on the quilt, so receivers know where they have come from. Quilts need to be sent to us by 13 December 2019. Tag your friends and fellow quilters in this post so you can all get quilting!

Show and tell - quilts

Sometimes people will say during our weekly show and tell sessions 'oh you've seen this before ...', as if we don't want to see their quilts at every stage and opportunity! We've seen most of these before at earlier stages in their making, and we loved seeing them gain.

Helen found just the right fabrics for this community quilt
in her stash - a very fresh, inviting mix.

Nerida is working on a quilt panel she picked up at Jessie
Chorley’s delightful London shop during the northern
summer. This was our first look - we'll be happy for more!

Every time she thinks she's finished, she finds another
little spot to fill with stitches ...

It's always fun to unpack quilts fresh from the quilter, as happens 
regularly because we have two long armers amongst our members. 
Miriam's not-so-creepy Halloween quilt was done just in time ...

... with fabulous spider web quilting by Yvette.

Robin loves vibrant colours, and that is what we are used
to seeing in her quilts - but the vibrancy was notched up even
for her in this glorious quilt made with her daughter's
specific fabric requests.

is a perfect choice, and will also be used for the binding.
