Clever, useful, pretty

Both of these makes had people looking very closely when they were seen at ‘show and tell’ a high;Iggy of our regular meetings, so we expect to see more.

Pat made a clutch bag for a friend, starting with a Kawandi-style
panel, with an appealing mix of prints

The quilting is more varied than usually seen in Kawandi quilts

Pat made the button from resin.it’s loop is a stretchy
jersey to make it easier to close

Versatile fabric trays made by Julie can be packed flat,
and snapped at the corner to make a deeper, portable tray.
The flat measurement here  is 7” x 9”, but can be any size.

They are very useful for travel, or at home, for sewing notions
in use, or keeping other items together, such as keys or jewellery,
then packed away flat when not in use.

New quilts

Noelle hand and machine pieced this pretty quilt for her
granddaughter’s 11th birthday. There are two blocks, one of
them an ‘X’ rather than the sashing you might first ‘see’.
A wide variety of scraps and 1930s reproduction fabrics
gives it lightness and great appeal.

The backing fabric (last photo) is also a versatile beauty.
Sure to loved.

Four inch pieced and non-pieced  hexagons English paper pieced
by Jill.  The mix of fabrics included a lot of Liberty Tana lawn,
mostly from the Travel collection.

The outer border is Liberty’s ‘Copenhagen’ print, the large
unpieced hexagons are ‘Palazzo’.

Janet made  this quilt for an unwell friend,
using a pictorial batik print …

… and quilted it on her long-arm machine.

A new family heirloom

All of Miriam’s quilts are beautiful, but ’Flowers and Baskets’ is also a precious family heirloom, beginning with the gift of linen from her husband’s grandmother, who recently died at 105. The linen is the background to the hand-appliqued centre panel.

The baskets and flowers are hand appliqued, and Miriam
hand quilted the finished piece.

There are a lot of different fabrics in the quilt!

The reverse is an Ann Maria Horner wide back  print.

The binding compliments both the front and back of the quilt.

It’s not all quilts …

Marg V ‘s very first attempt at English paper piecing.
 She might be hooked …

Susan describes her leap from bilbies to pigs as prompted by
‘another brilliant pattern by @jodiericrac’.

Susan has dressed them in Liberty (!), and included lace
trimmed bloomers, thoughtfully adapted to accommodate
their anatomy.

Of course their dresses have pockets -
that’s what girls really, really need!

Than came a request for another.
She has a reversible dress in shot cotton …

… with this print on the reverse …

… and complimentary Bloomers in Liberty ‘Betsy’.

Colour coordinated!

With no reference to each other’s work, Janet and Susan Mack finished these projects at just about the same time.

Janet’s quilt is the Chilhowie Mystery Quilt
designed by Bonnie Hunter.

Janet is developing her long arm quilting skills at a rapid pace,

Susan Mack crocheted her intricate ombré blanket
while watching TV in the evenings.
