Interest in Kawandi style quilts, as made by Siddi people in India continues. At a recent Monday meeting, Val demonstrated how she has made some.
Val is working on the second row of pieces,
working towards the centre.
Val recommended this book, Godharis of Maharashtra: https://www.quiltmania-inc.us/boutique/books/collection-books/godharis-of-maharashtra/
Val also recommended investigating the quilts of the late Anna Williams, that we posted about here: https://fairholmequilters.blogspot.com/2021/02/anna-williams-quilter-1927-2010.html
Several of us have recently attended workshops with Lorena Uriarte where we started a Kawandi piece. Miriam and Stephanie have finished theirs:
Stephanie made her finished workshop panel into a zippered pouch |
Stephanie’s pieces laid out on the backing and batting, before stitching |
Miriam’s finished workshop piece, with ric-rac braid stitched between the top and batting layers around the edges. She plans to use it as a table centre. |
You can find information about Lorena's workshops on her website : https://lorenauriarte.com/
