In progress

Pin basting on a large table with helpers is a feature of
our monthly sit and sew days. This month we pinned
Susan M’s quilt featuring beautiful prints designed by
indigenous artists. We’re looking forward to seeing
how she quilts it.

Julie loved the panel from her stash, and was delighted
to find a very complementary print for the border.

Carol is having her large quilt top quilted by Laura
while she packs ready to move house.
The design is ‘Convergence’ by Ricky Timbs.

Another large quilt made by Carol, using colourful
batiks, ready for binding.

Caro, is really happy with the ginkgo leaf design quilted  by
Laura, complementing the straight lines of the
attic window blocks.

Quilt finishes

Helen has used her floral scrap hexagons to make
a gorgeous wide border for the individual flowers
resting on background hexagons of a neutral spotted print.

The backing is an Indian wide cotton, from Tambourine to Tilba.

Helen made the quilt for her own use, but Maggie, a new
rescue kitten seems to have taken ownership.

Lee’s table runner features alternating snowball
 and churn dash blocks.

The snowball blocks showcase a collection of bird prints.

A snuggly black, white and grey baby quilt, pieced and
quilted by Laura for a newborn great-nephew,
with a soft minky backing.

Val is working her way through her stash. She has used all
Aboriginal prints in her latest quilt, beautifully paired
with a range of solid colours.

A fabulous border of a print designed by the late renowned
indigenous artist Jimmy Pike brings it all together.
The black and white prints are also Jimmy Pike designs.

Community quilt finishes

‘Bespoked’ is a versatile pattern by Annette Ferguson.
Hilary’s version is scrappy, with low volume prints used
for the octagonal block centres and another low
volume for the sashing.

The ‘spokes’ are strips of small pieces of a variety of prints.

Each block is different, but the whole is cohesive.
Four sashed blocks finish at 50” square.

A donation to the community stash included a collection
of Kaffe Fasset prints. Helen gathered mostly warm coloured
pieces of different sizes and made blocks of squares
of several sizes.

Lynette went to her extensive blue and white
stash for this appealing baby quilt.

Robin helped out with hand stitching the binding.

Another donation of a some red, blue and white star blocks
immediately caught Jenny’s eye. She added some from her own
stash, and a red with white spot border. It was quilted by Laura.

A pile of blocks left over from another quilt was the
start of Jill’s improv cross blocks. The blocks are 8”.

The striped print border was a just big enough
piece from the community stash.

Laura’s meander quilting works well with
the many different angled straight lines.

Quilt finishes

Rainbow Dust’ is the quilt that Laura made (and quilted
on her long arm) to celebrate retirement from her very
demanding job. She won’t be looking for problems,
she will be quilting as much as she wants!

A lovely classic blue and white quilt made by Elaine W
for close relatives who eloped in their 70s.
Very nearly finished - just that little corner of
binding to be stitched down.

Ann’s quilt made from a kit supplemented by some of her
own fabrics. The embroideries were part of the kit.

The touches of that pinky-red are just right!
