November events

The exhibition is a fusion of colours, forms and techniques
composed to provoke thought and invite interpretation.
Showcased in the exhibition are a diverse range of
wall hangings and sculptural works.

76 Queen Street Concord West 2138

This exhibition questions the entanglements of human
bodies and materials, the concept of layers or the "skin" of
things. The work presented is predominantly in natural
fibres, linen and hemp, which use less water in the
production process, are ancient traditions and extremely
durable and malleable.

Our quilts

Marilyn’s exquisite pieced and appliqued king sized
‘Quilters Entwined’ was designed by Sandy Cousins from
Shiralee Stitches, together with Di Ford Hall’s daughter
Nicci, and made from Di’s Oak Alley collection of fabrics.
The quilt is big enough to reach the floor on a queen sized bed,
and Marilyn quilted it herself on her domestic machine, after
having it machine basted by a long-arm quilter!

The first border print is fussy cut to give the
impression of a curved edge.

Lots of appliqué and piecing.

The pattern can be bought alone, or as part of a kit
from Shiralee Stitches in northern NSW.

A sweet baby quilt made by Julie is for her eighth great
grandchild, due to arrive at the end of the year.

The perfect backing!

Our quilts and other finishes

Jan’s bright, fun quilt is for her granddaughter.

The blocks are squares and rectangles, easy to assemble,
and to size up or down.

Pink with dots and more squares and rectangles in the back.

Stephanie’s small ‘Makers Tote’ designed by Anna Graham,
pattern available from Noodlehead Sewing Patterns, made with
much loved Amy Butler fabric and Soft and Stable batting.

Interior of Stephanie’s bag - lots of pockets.

Julie found her toy pig from RicRac Sews pattern,
designed by Jodie Carlton.

She spent a lot of time selecting the complimentary
fabrics, and although it is a gift for a friend, she likes it so much
she might be making another one ….

Recently finished community quilts

A second community quilt made from a collection
of fabrics Elaine bought about fifteen years ago,
that has lingered in her stash.

The back is made from the same fabrics,
and there is still a little left!

Jill took part in the first #30daysofimprovqal run by
Shannon Fraser and Amanda Burton on Instagram in 2021.
The blocks were made then, and put together, but final
borders and quilting had to wait for nearly two years.

Free form machine and hand quilting  compliment
 the improv piecing.

Completion of this quilt is part of a plan to finish the eight
projects Jill started before 2023, but were not finished
at the start of this year. One more to go.

Robin added some borders to a sweet Mother Goose panel,
and quilted it for our community collection.

Stephanie is also on a mission to complete unfinished projects,
and donated this one to the community collection.

journey and movement through thread. Life has moved full

a slow, steady movement.

Our recent quilts

Congratulation to Jen, whose quilt ‘On a Whim’ was hung in the
2023 Quilt NSW Exhibition at Rosehill last month.

Jen wrote about her quilt on Instagram:
‘… I started it in 2014, using Heather Ross’s ‘Far Far Away’ (range) and modified the @thimbleblossoms pattern ‘On a Whim’ to make it square. The teensy colorful border was my own addition.
I spent this winter handquilting it … and my decision to do a 1cm crosshatch with matching colors was often regretted! So. Many. Stitches.
But there’s nothing like a hand-quilted quilt for drape and texture, and this one is incredibly soft (that early 2010s Windham base cloth is divine) … I’m claiming it for my own room and bed. I can’t wait to have it back for snuggling under this summer.
.

During the Covid lockdowns, Robin delved into her
scraps, and stitched them into comforting hexagons for a
cosy ‘at home’ quilt, with a similarly scrappy binding,
for her family to enjoy every day.

A fabulous combination of an undersea panel, a pieced border
and a very apt, fun backing, put together by Lyn for a young
relative who will be ver happy with it. Very nearly done!

Lyn’s backing of fun whales and waves -
looks like our east coast whale highway right now.

A pair of improv pieced quilts Jill made for her home.
Most of the fabric is hand screen printed by
Maze and Vale in Melbourne.

The second of the pair - each of the 24 blocks across the two
quilts is different. They were made over 4 1/2 years.

The backing for each quilt is a 19C reproduction print
that works well with the modern top.
Machine quilted by Laura Ujhazy.
