A textile tour of NSW Parliament House

Thanks to Fairholme’s Janice Freelander for telling us about the recent tour at NSW Parliament House Sydney, organised and led by her daughter, Brittany Allen, Senior Advisor - Collections and Heritage, Parliament of NSW:

Last Friday some members from Fairholme Quilters went to NSW Parliament House for a textile tour and high tea. Led by Brittany Allen, we saw twelve wall hangings by Heather Durrough. They took one year to complete and are comprised of canvas, cotton, silk, machine embroidery and appliqué. She also made The House as a Dream. They are all amazing!!

We also saw the Heraldic Tapestry The Coat of Arms of NSW  by Margaret Grafton, City Tree and Country Tree by Fahy Bottrell and another wall hanging, , by Dawn Fitzpatrick.

We were also privileged to see the Legislative Assembly chamber which has been refurbished to a very high standard.

Afterwards we enjoyed a delicious high tea in the Stranger’s Restaurant.

Thank you Brittany for such a wonderful tour and all the time you took in preparation. We really appreciated it.
