New community quilt finishes

Stephanie is doing very well with her ‘year of finishing
things off’, and generously donated three quilts recently.

2 1/2” strips cut from a layer cake, into various lengths, joined into
8 x 10” rectangles with no seams needing to meet produced a quick,
cheerful community quilt for Julie

Sue and Jill collaborated to make a gender-neutral
quilt for the Lismore flood appeal

The coloured blocks are the ‘Constellations’ print
designed by Lizzie House

Made by Fairholme quilters

A riot of colour, pattern and shape - Nerida’s version
of ‘Fantales’ designed by Sherpa Chapman.|

The back is mostly a large scale Anna Maria Horner
print, paired with a check.

Nerida hand quilted it, with lots of cross
stitches in the larger pieces.

The border features an Alice in Wonderland print.

Elaine G pieced a very long narrow table runner
In a modern style to suit her dining table.

A kindly neighbour asked Elaine W to make a quilt for her
daughter, to replace one she made some time ago that has
become worn with much-loved use, and Elaine was happy
to oblige.  Just a few stitches in the binding to go.

Elaine machine quilted her quilt. Her stash produced
most of the fabric, including the toile centre.

Made by Fairholme quilters - recent finishes

Elaine W is a fan of Michele Hill’s quilt designs
and fabrics - her latest wall hanging.

The appliqué is machine stitched, and Elaine quilted it herself.

Susan made her sampler as part of a sew-along with a
group of other quilters. The rich colours work well together.

Susan is an accomplished machine quilter, and has
mastered using rulers with her domestic machine.

Some blocks were saved for the back.

‘Pink and purple’ was the request for Jill’s version of Jen
Kingwell’s popular design ‘Wensleydale’
made for a six year old

It is hand quilted with 12wt Aurifil cotton Mako
thread, also in pink and purple.

Kawandi +

Interest in Kawandi style quilts and quilting remains high, with several more completed.  We know there are several more in the making.

Susan made her small Kawandi style quilt after a demonstration
at one of our recent meeting by Val. She used flannel fabrics
for piecing  and the back so it can be used to protect a table
from hot dishes, and intentionally left the sides not squared up.

Pat used her Japanese fabric stash, and finished some
 joins with embroidered top-stitching.

Generalising from her Kawandi quilt, Pat made another
small improv quilt using a crumb -piecing technique as
demonstrated by Teresa Downunder online
at teresadownunder.com

Jill’s Kawandi style quilt started in a workshop
with Lorena Uriarte

Made by Fairholme quilters - Denise’s ‘Japanese Tiles’

Denise made her beautiful version of Tita Leach’s ‘Japanese Tiles’ quilt for her friend Sari, who loves it. The centre panel blocks are very detailed, with appliqué, embroidery, beading and buttons. Thank you for borrowing it back so that we could see it finished and to take photos of it Denise.
