Fairholme Quilt Show: members' challenge (4 of 4)

Our recent quilt show included a members’ challenge, curated by Roslyn, to make a 12” block in black and white fabric, with up to 10% of a ‘splash of colour’ from a solid fabric provided to each entrant. 43 entries later we had a great display, and the makings of three quilts. Here is the final batch:

Lest we forget

Elaine Walton’s Poppies for Pa hung in our quilt show earlier this month:

‘Made for my husband who spent much time over two and a half years transcribing and annotating my grandfather’s World War I diaries of 1916, 1917 and 1918.’

Hand and machine appliqué, hand quilted.
Design: Margaret Cormack’s ‘Not Forgotten’.

'Pickled Fish' class with Chris Jurd

We enjoyed a wonderful workshop with Chris Jurd last weekend, learning to make her foundation pieced 'Pickled Fish' quilt block - it's a complex block, a bit of a challenge with precision curved piecing required to fit all the pieces together, but it was a fun day with a bonus trunk show of Chris's own quilts. Thanks to Chris, and to Nerida for organising.

Pickled Fish - precision piecing on paper foundations, lots of
curved seams, and a riot of colour. Fun that makes you think.
Chris Jurd with Sue, who has made several beautiful
quilts from Chris's patterns and classes.

End of class progress - we all went home to finish our first block
while the muscle memory was still in play.
By Monday morning's meeting, we had six block finishes, with more to come ...
