Trunk show with Chris Jurd

We booked a 'Pickled Fish' foundation piecing workshop with Chris Jurd in April, that we knew would be excellent and challenging, and were delighted to find on the day that we would have a bonus trunk show of some of Chris's other quilts! We loved her confident and bold use of colour, that compliments both the precision of foundation piecing and templates, and the abandon of improv piecing. Even the backs of the quilts were fabulous, and Chris's choices for border fabrics have us thinking.

Online viewer's choice - Kona Colour Challenge, MQG Tasmania

You can vote online for your favourite quilt as Viewer's Choice in the Modern Quilt Guild of Tasmania's Kona Colour Challenge 2017.  The Kona Colour of the Year for 2017 was Flamingo, featured in each quilt.

The judged competition winners were announced on 28 February 2018, and you can have your say - deadline for voting is 12 noon on Thursday 8th March 2018.

Entries were received from around Australia, and the online exhibition includes artists' details and a short statement about each quilt.

Voting is on Facebook, and you must vote on the original MQGTasmania post (28 February) for your vote to be counted.

Well worth a look whether you cast a vote or just enjoy the quilts.

Colours of the year for 2018

Do these promotions influence your use of colour, or purchases?

There are at least two 'Colours of the Year' promotions currently running campaigns on social media.

The Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet, described in very purple prose, as

 ' ... A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. The Pantone Colour of the Year is used across a very wide range of products.

The Kona Colour of the Year is much more narrowly focused, promoting Robert Kaufman Fabric's Kona Cotton Solids, via a limited edition colour that will be available for one year only. A 'look book' of quilt patterns commissioned from well known designers for 2018's Tiger Lily is available here.

It is described by Robert Kaufman fabrics as ' ... a versatile, lively red-orange hue you didn't know you were missing ...'

Kona Cotton in Tiger Lily will be available in quilt stores in the New Year.
